Anonymous said: What do you think about Stephan Molyneux?
I’ve watched one or two of his videos and he didn’t seem like anything special. He’s mostly charisma and not much else. Many of his arguments that do hold some weight, have been argued by others before and argued better.
Met him in passing at the conference, shook his hand, that sort of deal. He didn’t socialize heavily with people that weren’t speakers and I honestly didn’t see what all the fuss was about.
Later on I found out how he has an almost cult-like following online, and then everything sort of made sense. People were really invested in this guy, and that’s why he seemed so awesome and insightful to them.
Then I found out about more of his weird beliefs like defoo. Which is basically disowning anyone in your family that doesn’t support you. Rather scary stuff because that is cult-like behavior.
You remove their support systems to make them more likely to buy into what you’re saying. It basically turns your social life into an echo chamber. I think that’s incredibly harmful.
I’ve heard of some pretty shifty things going on in that group of people and in his personal beliefs, but that’s only what I’ve heard. Do what you please with that information. I know that many folks in the MRM are distrustful of him, but stay quiet because he’s a big name, and therefore an ally.
But I really worry about the overall outcome of what some of these fringe groups might do to the movement.
